Equipment

  • Large Skillet Used for sautéing chicken and building the sauce
  • Mixing bowl For preparing the sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 3 green onions chopped
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil, for cooking
  • ½ cup chopped water chestnuts optional
  • 8 leaves butter lettuce or Romaine for wrapping

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground chicken and cook, breaking it up, until fully browned and cooked through.
  • Add garlic and ginger to the skillet. Sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Pour sauce into the skillet and stir to coat the chicken. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Stir in chopped green onions and optional water chestnuts. Cook for another minute, then remove from heat.
  • Spoon warm filling into lettuce leaves. Top with desired garnishes and serve immediately.

Notes

  • To make vegetarian, substitute tofu or mushrooms for chicken.
  • For added heat, stir in chili garlic sauce or red pepper flakes.
  • Use iceberg lettuce for crunchier wraps, but Bibb or butter works best for flexibility.
