Easy Air Fryer Baklava

Jump to Recipe

Who doesn't love a sweet, flaky treat? Baklava is one of those desserts that can instantly transport us to dessert heaven; a layered filo pastry of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean origin, typically filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey or syrup.

It's rich, sticky, and utterly satisfying, with a crisp, crunchy top and a syrup-soaked interior.

We remember the first time we tried it, devouring a piece and thinking, "Wow, why haven't we made this before?"

Making baklava is simpler than you think! With layers of phyllo dough and nuts, it turns into a beautiful masterpiece on your plate.

Drizzle some honey syrup over it, and you're in for a real treat.

We're excited to share our recipe. It's perfect for any occasion and will have everyone talking.

So, grab your ingredients and let's whip up some baklava that'll impress!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Baklava

Here's what you'll need to whip up this decadent delight:

  • Phyllo dough: You can usually find this magical stuff in the freezer section-just don't forget to thaw it!
  • Nuts: Walnuts, pistachios, or almonds-they all work! Just chop them up for that perfect crunch.
  • Butter: Melted, because let's be real, butter makes everything better.
  • Sugar: A bit to sweeten your nut mix.
  • Cinnamon: Just a sprinkle for that warm, cozy flavour.
  • Honey: The glorious sticky stuff that'll soak your baklava and take it to another level!
  • Water: To help create that sweet syrup.

If you're planning a full meal, consider these side dishes for hearty beef entrees to round out a dinner menu.

  • Layer it carefully: Don't rushlayering the phyllo dough! Each layer should be brushed with about 1 teaspoon of melted butter per sheet to keep it flaky and divine.
  • Cut before cooking: Make sure you cut your baklava before popping it into the air fryer-this allows the syrup to soak in perfectly!
  • Keep an eye on it: Air fryers can be tricky, so check on your baklava halfway through (about 8-10 minutes at 350°F) to ensure it's golden and gorgeous, as shown in air fryer recipes for beginners, since cooking times can vary by model and basket size.

Serving Suggestions

Once your baklava is ready to roll, here's how to serve it up:

  • Dust it off: A light sprinkle of powdered sugar before serving adds a charming touch.
  • Pair it up: Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of tangy Greek yogurt (strained full-fat Greek yogurt adds a creamy, tangy balance) for a tasty contrast!
  • Coffee time: Enjoy it with a strong cup of coffee or tea-ideal for that afternoon pick-me-up (try Turkish coffee or a dark-roast espresso for a bold pairing)!

For the Honey Syrup

  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup water
  • Optional: a squeeze of lemon juice

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine chopped nuts, sugar, and cinnamon-set aside.
  • Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush with melted butter. Repeat this with about 6-8 sheets (buttering each layer) to create a base.

  • Preheat your air fryer to 320°F.
  • Place the baklava in the air fryer basket in a single layer (you may need to cook in batches).
  • Cook for about 15 minutes or until golden and crispy.

  • Once the baklava is done, drizzle the hot syrup over it and let it soak in.
  • Serve warm and watch it disappear! Enjoy every sweet, flaky bite!
