Easy and Crispy Air Fryer Crab Rangoon

Jump to Recipe

Crab Rangoon is one of those snacks that gets us every time, a classic American Chinese appetizer of cream cheese and crab wrapped in wonton wrappers. Those crispy little parcels filled with creamy goodness make for a perfect bite.

Whenever we pull out the air fryer, we think about those late-night cravings that need satisfying. Instead of deep-frying, we can whip up a lighter version that still hits the spot.

Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these little bites are a total crowd-pleaser, with a golden-brown exterior and a creamy, tangy cream cheese center. We can toss them together in mere minutes!

They're perfect for a party, movie night, or just munching while scrolling through our phones.

Ready to give it a whirl? Let's get to it!

Serve them with simple and complementary choices like easy side dishes for beef tips that add balance to rich appetizers.

  • Seal 'Em Tight: When wrapping, make sure the edges are well-sealed. Nothing says "disaster" like crab filling oozing out during frying-yikes!
  • Don't Overcrowd: Give your crab rangoon some room to breathe in the air fryer; leave about ½ inch between pieces for even air circulation and, for more seafood ideas, try easy air-fryer crab recipes for snacks.
  • Brush with Oil: A little spray or brush of oil (use a neutral oil like avocado or vegetable) on the outside enhances the crunch-factor-trust us on this one!

Variations and Substitutions

Feeling a little wild with your rangoon? Here are some spicy twists:

Enjoy these rangoon alongside cornbread variations such as jalapeño or honey cornbread for savory gatherings to add a warm, bready contrast.

  • Baked Crab Rangoon: If you're looking for a healthier option, pop these babies in the oven instead! Bake at 400°F for about 8-10 minutes, turning once, to achieve a similarly crispy exterior.
  • Creamy Spinach Crab Rangoon: Add some sautéed spinach to the filling for a delicious twist that'll make you feel fancy.
  • Spicy Crab Rangoon: Add some sriracha or a dash of red pepper flakes for a fiery kick that'll have your palate dancing!

Serving Suggestions

Once your crab rangoon is golden brown and picture-perfect, here's how to serve them up:

  • With Sweet and Sour Sauce: The classic dipping partner with its tangy-sweet, vinegar-and-pineapple flavor, often made with rice vinegar and pineapple juice!
  • On a Platter: Arrange them neatly and let them take center stage at your next gathering-you might just win «Host of the Year».
  • Garnished with Green Onions: A sprinkle of chopped green onions on top adds a pop of colour and freshness that's visually appealing; use thinly sliced scallions (white and green parts) for the best texture.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, crab meat, green onions, garlic powder, and soy sauce until smooth and well-combined.
