  • Marinate Well: Let the chicken soak up all those lovely flavors for at least 30 minutes, or up to 8 hours for deeper flavor.
  • Soak Wooden Skewers: If you're using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes beforehand to prevent burning.
  • Single Layer: Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket for even cooking - and for other beginner-friendly air fryer protein recipes try air fryer wings for beginners.

Variations and Add-Ons

Turn your chicken satay up a notch with these cool variations:

  • Spicy: Add some chili flakes or sriracha for that spicy kick, such as Thai bird's eye chili for authentic Southeast Asian heat.
  • Nut-Free: Substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter in a 1:1 ratio to match the texture and richness.
  • Herbal: Throw in some chopped cilantro or mint for a fresh touch.

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, lime juice, and coconut milk. Mix well.
  • Add the chicken strips to the marinade. Stir to coat the chicken evenly and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F.
  • Thread the marinated chicken strips onto skewers.
  • Place the skewers in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred.
  • Remove skewers from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
