Easy Air Fryer Crab Cakes

Jump to Recipe

Crab cakes in the air fryer, now we're talking-crab cakes are a classic coastal seafood patty made from lump crab meat and seasonings, here crisped quickly in an air fryer. There's something about that crispy, golden exterior that gets us drooling every time.

Air fryers are like little magic boxes that make everything better, right (they circulate hot air at about 350-400°F to crisp food quickly)? One of us had this at a friend's party, and bam-it was love at first bite.

That crunch is just too good to pass up.

Plus, it's so easy to whip up. Throw together some crab, spices, and voila!

Your new favorite snack is born. Whether you need a quick appetizer or a tasty treat for yourself, air fryer crab cakes are the way to go.

They're crispy, delicious, and super easy. We're kind of obsessed.

Who wouldn't be?

Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Crab Cakes

  • Chill the Mixture: Let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes (about 35-40°F) so they hold their shape.
  • Form Them Well: Pack them tightly to avoid falling apart, pressing into ¾-1-inch-thick rounds for even cooking.
  • Don't Overcrowd: Give them space in the air fryer to cook evenly, and for similar spacing tips see air fryer fish cakes spacing tips.

Variations and Add-Ons

Make these crab cakes uniquely yours with these ideas, and pair them with moist cornbread side dishes, especially a Southern-style buttermilk cornbread for a sweet, tender contrast.

  • Spicy Crab Cakes: Add some diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Cheesy Crab Cakes: Mix in some grated cheddar (about ¼ cup per pound), which melts into pockets of savory richness.
  • Garlic Butter Crab Cakes: Brush them with garlic butter before air frying.

Serving Suggestions

Here's how to make your crab cakes the star of the show:

  • With a Dip: Serve with tartar sauce, aioli, or remoulade (a tangy Creole-style sauce).
  • As a Slider: Pop them into mini buns with some coleslaw.
  • On a Salad: Top a fresh salad with these delicious cakes, adding warm, flaky crab and a crisp exterior for contrast.
