Easy and Crispy Air Fryer Zucchini Fries

Jump to Recipe

Zucchini fries are a fantastic way to enjoy a crispy snack without the guilt, made from breaded zucchini sticks that mimic traditional fries but with fewer calories, often serving as a lighter alternative to deep-fried potato fries. We can't even count the times we've craved that fried goodness while trying to eat healthier.

These bad boys give us the crunch we love, without feeling like we just devoured a mountain of calories. They are super easy to make in the air fryer, which means less mess and no splattered oil on our shirts.

When we first tried zucchini fries, we couldn't believe how delicious they were. They're lightly seasoned and come out perfectly crispy every time.

Seriously, these fries could give regular potatoes a run for their money! Get ready to munch on something truly scrumptious!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Zucchini Fries

Let's gather our zucchinis and other scrumptious goodies for this fry-tastic creation:

  • Zucchini: About 2 medium-sized squash. Look for firm ones that don't have too many bumps-nobody likes a lumpy fry!
  • Breadcrumbs: Panko for that extra crunch, because we all need more crunch in our lives.
  • Parmesan Cheese: A sprinkle for that cheesy, salty goodness that makes everything better.
  • Eggs: To bind it all together-because we need a little teamwork here!
  • Garlic Powder: A must-have for that zingy kick that takes these fries over the top.
  • Salt and Pepper: Essential for seasoning things up just right.

Easy peasy, right? Get ready for some serious snacking!

Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Zucchini Fries

Ready to make these zucchini fries your new favourite snack? Check out these tips:

  • Cut Evenly: Slice your zucchini into uniform sticks-this helps them cook evenly, about ½-inch thick. Nobody likes a soggy fry!
  • This ensures that you get that crispy, golden effect everyone craves; similar methods appear in sweet potato fries for crispy results.
  • Dunk 'n Coat: Make sure to really coat those zucchini sticks in the egg wash (beat the eggs with 1 tablespoon water to thin) before throwing them in the breadcrumbs-this is where the magic happens!

Variations and Substitutions

Want to jazz things up? Check out these fun twists:

  • Spicy Zucchini Fries: Add a sprinkle of cayenne or a dash of your favorite hot sauce to your breadcrumbs for a fiery kick!
  • Herb-Infused: Mix in some dried herbs like oregano or Italian seasoning to improve your fries to gourmet status; suitable side ideas include moist cornbread variations for savory sides.
  • Cauliflower Swap: Love the idea but want a lower-carb option? Swap out zucchini for cauliflower florets and follow the same steps for crispiness, cutting florets into thinner pieces and air-frying at 400°F for 8-10 minutes for best texture!

Serving Suggestions

Once you've whipped these fries up, here are some delicious ways to serve them:

  • With Dipping Sauces: Ranch, marinara, or spicy mayo-whatever floats your boat, with marinara adding a bright, tangy tomato finish!
  • As a Side Dish: Pair them with grilled chicken or a juicy burger for a fun twist on your classic meal.
  • Garnished with Herbs: A sprinkle of fresh herbs on top will make them look fancy and taste even better!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium zucchinis
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (or the crispy setting, if it has one).
  • Slice zucchini into sticks, keeping them as uniform as you can-think fry size!
  • In one bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk the eggs.
  • Dip each zucchini stick first into the egg wash, then coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, making sure it's well covered.

  • Serve hot, and don't forget those dipping sauces-they're the star of the show! Enjoy your new snack obsession!

Notes

Try the same air-frying method on thinly sliced zucchini to make crisp snacks like zucchini chips for light snacking, which crisp best when sliced about ⅛-1/4 inch and air-fried at 375-400°F. For a richer, creamy alternative, ripe avocado slices coated in panko make excellent fries when air-fried briefly at 370°F-see avocado fries for creamy crunch.
